“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me- watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30
The truth is, everyone is fighting a silent battle. Some express it more than others, but truly everyone wants to be seen, known and loved. That night we got to look at Lauren and we chose to see a man who was hurt, lost or confused and one who needs to be loved and known.
Our team at Catalyst Women will be spending the first 40 days of 2018 in prayer and fasting and we encourage you to pray and ask God if He would like you to join. We’ll be posting prayers to the website and we’d absolutely love to be praying for you. You are such a special part of this journey and we wouldn’t exist or matter if it weren’t for you and the stories you have to tell!
Weeks post delivery we received the itemized statement showing the charges, the insurance payments and then what we owed for the entire stay for Caleb’s arrival. It was overwhelming.
Each line my eyes grew as I saw the charges,
But isn’t that how life is? There are known things and unknown things every day. Each day is a gift, we aren’t promised our next breath, yet we get comfortable in our daily routine of the known things and we are never ready for that call that brings unexpected news, a certain diagnosis, an email that tears us apart… There’s no way we could be ready and there is nothing we can do to really prepare other than to make the most of each moment, each day, each interaction.
“One by one the enemy has whispered lies and led them off as slaves.”
The enemy will find any way to distract you. He wants to divide God’s Kingdom. He wants to distort your thinking. He wants to make you believe that just a little of this or that is ok. Again, this will look different for each of us… but before we know it, he has led us off as slaves. We become bound to the thing we thought was harmless.
Friend, when was the last time you let yourself dream? What did you want to be when you were young? Before you got married? Before you had kids? What is that thing that you think about in your down moments? Yes, that thing that you think about, that thing that you are good at, that hobby you have always wanted to try. Those are not placed in your heart by accident. As we close out 2017, I want to encourage you to do something with me.
When my newborn son was two weeks old we received a call that my husband would be deploying for about two months in 36 hours. Honestly, we were a little in disbelief and it caught us by surprise. After a tearful “see you soon” (you don’t say goodbye in the military) I drove home asking God why. I settled on Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
…The many Halloween traditions give context to what we still do today on this spooky day. When it was believed that ghosts came back to roam the earth for one night, people would dress up in costumes to ward off the spirits in hopes they would mistake them for another spirit. We give out candy, but years ago they left out food to “appease” the passing spirits.
Your Story A few weeks back I got to talk with a sweet friend and fellow military spouse. We began to talk about Catalyst Women and I mentioned getting her story. She proceeded to tell me that she doesn’t feel like there is anything special and that she is just “a run of the mill.” […]
