“No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety. For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave. You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.” –Psalm 16:9-11
As I read this verse the other day, my eyes honed in, “for you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.” This is such a beautiful promise, that I began to see seasons of our lives where we will probably feel as though are souls have died, that we are grieving to the point of death. Maybe your marriage is in the process of divorce, maybe you are fighting for custody of your child, a job loss and you are unsure of where the money is going to come from, a dream that you have had to close the book on or a relationship that needs to end… our souls feel as though they are dying, we yearn for hope, for breakthrough, for light and life to return. I know I have asked God before during various seasons, “where are you? Why are you allowing this to happen? I have trusted you, I have done all the right things, why me?”
I’ve been there. Sister, you are not alone in this. But I am going to ask you to do this, speak, no, proclaim this over your life!
“My soul WILL NOT be left among the dead and I WILL NOT rot in this grave. I know the Redeemer and the giver of Life and He has promised me life and life abundantly. I’m here for a season, but I trust Him and rest on His truths.”
If you saw the Rachel Hollis movie, Made for More, she commented that, “Everything does not happen for a reason, but everything has purpose.” Wow. What a better way to view every season, to find hope in the tough stuff, to press on in obedience. There is purpose, even in this friend. We will all find ourselves in the “grave” at some point, walking through something that maybe we can’t process or believe, but you are a warrior, a daughter of the King and you get to claim Psalm 11 over your life, that you will rise. That your soul will awaken and lift. That you will walk in stride again. This season is not forever, that is a promise, but there can be purpose here. Praying and speaking this over you today beautiful friend!
